From humble to elegant,
here are some breathtaking mosques in Dubai-
Grand Mosque
Placed in the old
Dubai, between the textile souk and Dubai Museum, Grand Mosque was originally
built in 1990. It holds a fascinating story behind its construction- it has got
twice revision of construction, once it was demolished and built-in 1960 and
again redone in 1998. The design of sandy-grey walls is inspired by traditional
Islamic patterns that feature blue mosaic work, five large Quranic inscriptions
at the entrance, and 9 large and 45 smaller domes. It has the minaret of
70-metre, making it the tallest in the city, where non-muslims are allowed to
enter and take pictures. It can hold up to 1,200 worshippers.
Al Farooq Omar Bin Al
Khattab Mosque
Named after the
companion of the Prophet Muhammad (sal), Umar Bin Khattab (who later changed to
Al Farooq) and created to share the values of Islam, this is a popular mosque
opened to non-muslims. Established in 1986, the mosque has taken inspiration
from Istanbul’s Blue Mosque, this architecture shows a blend of Ottoman and
Andalusian design in its 4 minarets, 21 domes, 124 stained glass windows,
colorful tiles in the front entrance and traditional-style fountain. It is also
constructed twice, once in 2003 and later in 2011 making it one of the largest
mosques in Dubai that take over 2,000 people.
Jumeirah Mosque
Here is one of the
attractive and amazing mosques in Dubai which is a must-visit place. Adopting
the ‘Open Doors. Open Minds’ policy, it opens doors to locals and tourists from
all religions and faiths. Built entirely from white stone in the medieval Fatimid
tradition, at night, its intimate design and architecture glorify in the
illumination. Large enough to fit 1,200 visitors, this space welcomes you to
learn Emirati culture. You can ask questions and take pictures.
Khalifa Al Tajer
Mosque
Acclaimed as the “Green
Mosque”, this is the first ever eco-friendly mosque in the world and allows
only Muslims to enter its dome. Stretched in the area of 105,000 square feet,
this mosque was opened for tourists in 2014 with a capacity for around 3,500
devotees. It is constructed keeping the safety of the environment in mind and
is therefore made of environmentally friendly materials and energy efficiency
techniques. It skilfully employs green building materials, solar energy to
power the lights, thermal insulation systems for lowering energy consumption
and air conditioners that emit reduced greenhouse gases. Saving up to 20 to 25
percent on energy and water resources, this is a well-maintained,
fully-equipped and spacious mosque.
